Manuscripts should be 15 to 20 pages in length, double spaced on standard bond, free of technical language, and prepared according to the Chicago Manual of Style, 14th edition (University of Chicago Press). All bibliographic information should be included in sequentially numbered full endnotes- please do not use software footnote functions that embed footnotes at the end of each page, or that autolink them to a section at the end of the document, but place endnotes in sequential order in a separate file. Bibliographic entries should include full names and not the initials of authors and editors. Please use the following forms:

Submit an original plus three copies of the articles and abstract, with name, title, affiliation, address, phone number, and e-mail address on a cover sheet, and a copy of the manuscript on a 3 ½” diskette (IBM or Macintosh) in WordPerfect, Microsoft Word, or saved as a Rich Text Format (RTF) file.
One set of original 5”×7” high-contrast photographs or illustrations should be numbered consecutively, accompanied by a separate list numbered captions and marked with the number and author’s name on the back. If using copyrighted artwork, the author must secure written permission for its reproduction in Historical Geography. The author is encouraged to submit artwork in digital format as either .tiff or .eps files, minimum 300 dpi.If artwork is submitted digitally, the author must include a high-quality printout for reference.
When formatting tables, titles should appear at the top. Titles for illustrations should appear in the captions, not in the illustrations themselves. All lettering within figures should be no smaller than 6 pts. and should be in a standard font. The editors reserve the right to return any manuscript that does not meet the requirements.
