Jay Edwards to speak at LSU Rural Life Museum
Annual Symposium

The LSU Rural Life Museum presents the 14th annual Ione E. Burden Symposium on Saturday, March 8, at the museum. This year’s conference, “Sweet Success: A History of Louisiana Sugarcane,” focuses on Louisiana’s sugarcane crop, which has been cultivated here for more than two centuries.

Among the distinguished speakers discussing the history of sugarcane plantations, products associated with sugar and the significance of this crop to our state will be Jay D. Edwards, director of the Fred Kniffen Cultural Resources Laboratory at LSU. Jay will discuss “How Sweet it Was: The Architecture of Sugar Production, a Brief Cultural History,” focusing on service buildings on plantations.
